Assistant Principal/Athletic Director

I graduated from Tyner High School in 1984. In 1985 I wrestled at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga. I then enlisted in the United States Marine Corps and served on active duty for almost four years where I was on the USS Carl Vinson as part of the Special Weapons Security detachment. I was awarded a Good Conduct Medal and an Overseas Deployment Ribbon and received three Meritorious Mast Awards while on Active Duty. I was on the All-Marine Wrestling Team for three years and qualified for the 1988 Greco Roman Olympic Wrestling Trials. I was also the military East Coast Karate Champion in 1987. After active duty, I spent almost two years on Active Reserve as an Administration Sergeant with Battery "M" Artillery group here in Chattanooga. I graduated with a major in Social Studies and a minor in Mathematics from the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga in 1993. I first started in Education in January of 1990 as the In-School Suspension teacher at Tyner Middle, Tyner High and Lookout Valley Middle/High School where I also coached Wrestling and Football. In 1993 I was hired as a full time teacher at East Ridge Middle School teaching 7th grade math and 8th grade American History for 3 years. In 1996, I started teaching Math (Algebra 1), Academic Honors World Cultures, Government and Economics at East Ridge High School until 2009. In 2008 I was East Ridge High School's "Teacher of the Year" and served on the Hamilton County Textbook Social Studies Adoption Committee. In 2004 I helped develop the Economics Curriculum for Hamilton County Department of Education. I was the Head Wrestling Coach at East Ridge High School from 1993-2008. I have coached seven individual state champions and approximately thirty All-State Wrestlers. The teams that I coached placed seven times in the top ten at the TSSAA traditional state championships.  I was also the Head Middle School Football Coach for many years and was lucky enough to win three HCAC Championships in football and several in wrestling. I have coached Middle School Track, baseball, and wrestling. I graduated from Tennessee Tech with a Masters in Instructional Leadership in 2005 and graduated Sum Cum Laude. From 2009-2016 I was the Athletic Director and Assistant Principal at East Hamilton Middle/High School. My wife, Shelly Jackson, is a Teacher on Special Assignment at Spring Creek Elementary. We have been married for over 17 years. We have three daughters, Lauren, LeeAnn, and Katelyn. Since 2009, my wife and I are part of the Directing Crew for the TSSAA State Wrestling Championships. In 2017, I received the TSSAA Service Recognition Award by the TSSAA. In 2017 I was selected as the TSSAA A. F. Bridges District 3 Athletic Director of the Year.  Also, in 2017 I have been appointed to serve a four year term on the TSSAA Sports Medicine Advisory Committee serving as the TSSAA State Athletic Director.  I am honored and humbled to be the Assistant Principal and Athletic Director at Ooltewah High School.  I truly hope that everyone will have a wonderful year.
