Ooltewah High School has been selected to the 2017 School Team Externship Program. In its first year, The School Team Externship Program gave Tennessee teachers the opportunity to learn how businesses work and to better understand the type of expertise that is important for tomorrow's workforce.

The Ooltewah High School team, consisting of, Heidi Moses (CTE department chair), Robin Copp (principal), Tracy Manning (guidance counselor), Taylor Flynn (English 11 teacher, yearbook sponsor), and Mark Hamby (English  IB 12 and AP English teacher) will spend one week in June with the Unum Group of Chattanooga, learning about current industry technologies and applied skills. These educators will spend a week at Unum's offices to meet with different professionals in various parts of the company to see how the skills taught at today's schools are applied in the business world.
"Through a collaborative effort, teachers will gain insight by taking the experience back to their school to share with colleagues and integrate in the classroom; including a clearer understanding of the importance of interviewing skills, clear communication, interpersonal relationships and other soft skills needed in the workforce," officials said.  "This program is also a chance for Unum to gain insight into the way teachers run their classrooms, and how that can affect the work habits of new hires and young people entering the workforce."
