Course: Algebra I (Freshman Academy) A & B

This course will provide the student with an understanding of the language, notation, and application of algebraic skills. Topics include linear and quadratic functions, exponents and radicals, polynomials, rational expressions, probability and statistics. Tennessee EOC required.

This course is for students who did not earn Algebra I credit in the 9th grade. This course will provide the student with an understanding of the language, notation, and application of algebraic skills. Topics include linear and quadratic functions, exponents and radicals, polynomials, rational expressions, probability and statistics. Tennessee EOC required.

Prerequisite: 16-19 on Explore Test
Fall Term, 1 Credit

This course will provide the student with an understanding of the language, notation, and application of algebraic skills. Topics include linear and quadratic functions, exponents and radicals, polynomials, rational expressions, probability and statistics. Tennessee EOC required.

Course: Geometry
Grades: 10, 11, 12
Prerequisite: Algebra I
1 Term, 1 Credit

This course includes an emphasis on two and three-dimensional concepts. Topics include lines, planes, polygons, polyhedra, congruency, similarity, right angles, circles, cones, cylinders, spheres, coordinate geometry, and inductive and deductive reasoning. Tennessee EOC required.

Course: Honors Geometry
Grade: 9
Prerequisites: "B" average in Algebra I , Advanced Level on Algebra Gateway Exam and Teacher recommendation - suggested 20 or above on the Explore Test
Fall Term, 1 Credit

Course: Honors Algebra II
Grade: 10
Prerequisites: Honors Geometry and Teacher recommendation
1 Term, 1 Credit

This course extends the concepts and applications of the algebraic process. Major topics include: complex numbers, relations and functions, exponents and logarithms, quadratic relations, systems of equations and inequalities, probability and statistics. Hamilton County End of Course Test Required. The instructional pace is faster than that of Algebra II. Tennessee EOC required.

Course: Advanced Algebra & Trigonometry
Grades: 11, 12
Prerequisite: Algebra II
1 Term, 1 Credit

Topics include: functions and graphs, polynomials and rational functions, trigonometry, triangle applications, exponents and logarithmic functions, matrices, complex numbers, and conic sections. This course will improve math skills so that students could select Honors Pre-Calculus as their next course. Review of Algebra I, Geometry and Algebra II will provide students the opportunity to review for ACT assessments.

Course: Honors Pre-Calculus
Grades: 10, 11, 12
Prerequisite: Advanced Algebra & Trigonometry or Honors Algebra II
1 Term, 1 Credit

This course will emphasize the interrelationship of various fields of mathematics. Topics to be included are: functions and graphs, polynomials and rational functions, trigonometry, triangle applications, vectors, exponential and logarithmic functions, systems of equations, matrices, polar coordinates, complex numbers, sequences, and conic sections.

Course: AP Calculus
Grade: 12
Prerequisite: Honors Calculus
Additional Fees: $89 AP exam fee
1 Term, 1 Credit OR 2 Terms, 2 Credits (eligible for AP Exam)

AP Calculus is an advanced mathematics course that uses meaningful problems and appropriate technology to develop concepts and applications related to continuity and discontinuity of functions and differentiation, and integration. The advanced placement course will use a curriculum based upon the curriculum of the state of Tennessee and the guidelines of the College Board. Students who are eligible for fee waivers with the school system may be eligible for a fee waiver on the AP exam through the AP Program.

Prerequisite: Advanced Algebra & Trigonometry or Honors Pre-Calculus

Statistics is an advanced mathematics course that uses meaningful problems and appropriate technologies to use statistical concepts developed in previous courses to develop more advanced means of statistical analyses, interpretations and predictions.

Course: Bridge Math
Grade: 12
Prerequisite: Algebra II
1 Term, 1 Credit

Bridge math is designed for seniors who have an ACT score below 19. this course will resist concepts previously studied in a new approach; make connections and allow for a more in-depth understanding of topics supporting the foundation for problem solving applications, and understanding application through contextual problem based inquiry.
