Course: Art History
Prerequisite: None

This course serves as an introduction to the history of visual arts (this is not an art production course but rather a history course).  Through this study, students will explore Art Criticism, Aesthetics, Art Production and the history of specific works of art, artists, or the time period that may have directly influenced the artist. Students will be required to critique works of art using the 4 step art critique process through writing and public speaking.

Course: Visual Art I
Prerequisite: None

This is an introduction to the visual arts course in which students explore different media and applications of art. The emphasis of the course centers on the basic techniques of two and three dimensional design and art history. There is a materials/supply fee or students may opt to purchase materials on their own.

Course: Visual Art II
Prerequisite: Art I

This is a foundation studio class designed to build upon Art 1 experiences in art production, art history, criticism and aesthetics. Through the exploration of various media and techniques, students will continue to develop skills in drawing, painting, mixed media, sculpture, and more at an advanced level of study. Students will be required to critique works of art using the 4 step art critique process.

Course: Advanced Visual Art (Art III/IV)
Prerequisites: Art II

This course stresses the ability of the student to explore the arts and begin to develop his/her own personal style. Students must be able to work more independently and show a higher level of understanding of the elements and principles of art, techniques and media used. Advanced Visual Art (III/IV) is a combined class, with higher expectations of the Art IV student. There is a materials/supply fee or students may opt to purchase materials/supplies on their own. 

Course: Advanced Placement (AP) Studio Art
Prerequisite: Art II
Additional Course Fee: $96 AP exam fee

This is equivalent to an entry-level college course. The emphasis in this course centers on the further development of students' individual creative skills. Students draw from their personal experiences to create art work geared toward the AP Studio Art Portfolio. Two-dimensional and three-dimensional design will be investigated. College credit may be earned by submitting a passing AP Portfolio through the College Board. Students who are eligible for fee waivers with the school system may be eligible for a fee waiver on the AP exam through the AP Program.

Course: Dance (This is our Colorguard class)
Prerequisite: Audition and signed approval of the Band Director

This class will study movement and dance as it relates to visual enhancement of music. All members will participate in the dance and visual ensemble. This group will participate with the marching band after school in conjunction with this class. After school rehearsals and performances are required. Students must audition for this class.

Course: Multi-Age Instrumental Music (Varsity Band)
Prerequisite: Signed approval of the Band Director
2 Credits

This course stresses the reading of music, music theory, music history and marching fundamentals. Concentration is centered on a high level of performance. After school rehearsals and performances are required.

Course: General Music
Prerequisite: None
1 Credit
This non-performing music class is designed to be a music appreciation course that teaches students about the “ingredients” of music such as melody, harmony, notation, texture, style, rhythm and form.  Students will explore the basics of music as well as sing, perform on classroom instruments, and listen to various examples of music from around the world.  This class is designed for the non-musician to meet the fine arts requirement for graduation.

Course: Multi-Age Vocal Music (Beginning Choir)
Prerequisite: None
1 Credit

Basic sight-singing skills and beginning music theory are learned. Students sing music from various periods and genres. This class is a prerequisite to concert choir. This is a performance-based class. Attendance for after school performances is required. No audition required.

Course: Vocal Ensemble I (Concert Choir)
Prerequisite: Audition, signed approval of the Choral Director
2 Credits
This course is for the advanced music student. Advanced sight-singing and music theory are learned. Students sing music from various periods and genres. This is a performance-based class. After school rehearsals and concerts are required. Open to SATB voices.
