Students transferring into the Hamilton County School system, who have earned 1/2 credit in Physical Education and 1/2 credit in Health, may substitute these credits for the required Wellness credit.
Students may earn multiple credits in Physical Education, but not in Wellness.

Wellness classes concentrate of five primary standards that are intended to make you healthier for the rest of your life. The first area is Personal Wellness which consists of nutrition and fitness. The second standard is divided between social, emotional, and mental health. First Aid and Safety make up our third standard. Human Growth and Development deal with relationships and sexuality. The final area we emphasize is Substance Use and Abuse which is divided by; appropriate use, health risks, and risk reduction.
Wellness is required for graduation by the State Department of Education.
Course: Physical Education I (HC)

The goal of the Ooltewah High School physical education classes is to introduce and teach the basic fundamentals of various individual and team related activities as well as health and fitness activities. Our Physical Education Staff would like to give individuals a basic knowledge of how to maintain a healthy and active lifestyle. Daily participation is required. This class is paired with the .5 credit personal finance class.
Course: Personal Finance

Personal Finance is a foundational course designed to inform students how individual choices directly influence occupational goals, future earning potential, and long term financial well-being. The standards in this course cover decision making skills related to goal setting, producing income, budgeting, saving, borrowing, managing risk, and investing. The course helps students meet the growing complexities of personal financial management and consumer decision making. Upon completing of this course, proficient students will understand how their decisions will impact their future financial well being.

The weight training courses at Ooltewah High School are aimed towards developing and improving students physically and mentally. The workouts are very rigorous, challenging, and demanding. Although the workouts are geared toward improving athletic performance, they will reward everyone who gives great effort on a daily basis. The class will increase fitness levels in the areas of; body composition, cardiovascular endurance, muscular endurance, muscular strength, and flexibility. Skills such as; balance, agility, power, speed, coordination, and reaction time will also improve with commitment on the student’s part. Each student will attempt to reach individual goals that are developed collaboratively.
