The Ooltewah High School Housing Ooltewah Owls (H.O.O.) Club was started in 2016. The club was founded with the goal of creating an owl sanctuary but evolved to include a recycling initiative, a gardening program, and an outdoor classroom. By the end of the first year, the club had many plans, which were actualized in the second year of the HOO Club. As of December of 2017, the HOO Club had a fully functioning outdoor classroom, maintained the Ooltewah High School Recycling Program, and broke ground on the OHS Garden.
The H.O.O. (Housing Ooltewah Owls) Club is a leadership class that focuses on student-led and student-run environmental stewardship. We created and continue to maintain the owl sanctuary, outdoor classroom, paper recycling program, and share responsibilities for our school gardens. We helped to implement the outdoor lunch/seating area last year to provide an option for a safer eating environment during the pandemic. We will share more with you regarding the rest of our projects in the future.
