Dual Enrollment

The Hamilton County Department of Education has established a dual enrollment/early college program with Chattanooga State Technical Community College. The program allows high school students to earn college credit during the regular school year or during the summer.

Students must meet the following requirements to be approved for Dual Enrollment:

ACT sub-score of 19 or higher in the area related to the DE course OR score "College Ready" on the COMPASS placement test in the area related to the DE course. ACT or COMPASS test must be taken prior to submitting registration forms.

Costs are based on the prevailing per-semester hour fee at CSTCC, plus the usual application fee. Interested students should see their school counselor for more information.
Course: Dual Enrollment English 12

Course: Composition I&II
Grade: 12
Prerequisite: Must meet the entrance requirements of Chattanooga State
2 Terms, 2 Credits

This course is conducted under the standards of Chattanooga State. Term I-Composition I and Composition II; Term II-two literature survey courses. College bound students are encouraged to take advantage of this college credit study opportunity. Tuition charges and books are purchased through Chattanooga State. Students who complete this course will receive two terms of high school credit as well as 12 college credit hours of English. Both terms are required to meet Honors Curriculum.

Course: Dual Enrollment Fundamentals of Public Speaking
Grade: 12
Prerequisite: Must meet all entrance requirements for CSTCC and have completed first term of Dual Enrollment English 12
Spring Term, 1/2 Credit

Introductory public speaking course stressing organization and presentation of the extemporaneous speech in a variety of formats.

Course: Dual Enrollment Psychology
Grades: 10, 11, 12
Prerequisite: Must meet all entrance requirements for CSTCC
1 Term, 1/2 Credit

An introductory course which includes the following: the principles, methods and history of psychology, the brain, altered states of consciousness, principles of learning, perception, motivation, sensation, memory and learning, language and problem solving.
